SKIN, FUR, PAWS, EARS, & CLAWS

When can I declaw my cat?

You can have your cat declawed as soon as they are 2 pounds.  This is about 2 months of age.  They are old enough to be put under anesthesia safely and the less they weigh, the quicker the healing.  Also, the fee is lower for a kitten under 16 weeks old.  We don't recommend declawing a cat over a year old unless it is necessary for their situation.

Should I let my declawed cat outdoors?

Leaving any cat outdoors lowers their average life span.  The risks of infectious disease, vehicular trauma (hit by car), fights with other animals and humans are great to a small cat.  If you add the fact that he or she is declawed -- just increases the risk.

I have two cats who like to clean each other.  I would like to treat them for fleas (with frontline or advantage), but I'm worried that they'll get sick by ingesting the medicine from the other cat. What do you suggest?

I carry Frontline here, so I will talk about that product.  As long as you separate them for two hours (and do not pet that area), all of the product will be absorbed.  Place the product on the skin between the shoulders and the neck so they cannot lick it themselves.
